Five Disney movies coming out in 2020

The coronavirus pandemic altered the release schedule for many Walt Disney Studios movies. Previously, Disney released its scheduled movies through 2027. Walt Disney Studios has an enviable movie slate for years to come. Here are 5 Disney and Fox movies currently scheduled for release in 2020.

In addition to “Star Wars” movies and Marvel projects, Disney now has films from Fox. Disney acquired Fox film studios (20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios) in 2019.

Fox’s horror movie “The Empty Man,” based on a graphic novel, is coming in October.

The film follows an ex-cop who tries to find a missing girl as he’s haunted by the death of his wife and son.

The adaptation stars James Badge Dale (“13 Hours”), Samantha Logan, and Aaron Poole.

Pixar’s “Soul,” moved from the summer to the fall.

Disney and Pixar announced the film Wednesday, June 19, 2019. The movie will “take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.”

Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter co-directs the film with Kemp Powers. Jamie Foxx voices Joe Gardner, the character seen above, who is a middle-school band teacher who has a passion for jazz music. Tina Fey voices a “soul-in-training” who has an unexpected encounter with Gardner decides to help him get back to Earth. 

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross compose the film with original jazz music from Jon Batiste.

“Nomadland,” based on a work of non-fiction, is coming in December.

Release date: December 4, 2020

Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film stars Frances McDormand, David Strathairn. It’s based on the non-fiction book that follows Americans traveling the country searching for work.

“Free Guy” stars Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”)

Reynolds plays a bank teller, named Guy. Whose bank, gets robbed multiple times daily. When Guy starts wondering what’s going on, he realizes he’s a non-playable character in a video game. Reynolds debuted the first footage for the film at New York Comic Con in October 2019 to a warm reception. 

Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar star. 

Fox’s “Death on the Nile” for release in late October.

The Agatha Christie adaptation includes Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Kenneth Branagh, and Tom Bateman.
